Santorini Island's Volcano
Santorini has been settled for eons. It has a history that few places on the planet can boast about. And it is still vibrant and alive to this day, and the best way to experience this island from every angle is to stay in a luxury hotel santorini. During the Bronze Age, the first traces of a distinct and highly advanced society were discovered. Sadly, it was a civilisation ahead of its time, and its reign ended around 1650 BC, when a huge volcanic eruption struck the island and halted the clock of western civilization's growth for about two thousand years. Nowadays, we assume that the explosion of Santorini's volcano was the most intense volcanic eruption in history. Ten times stronger than the Vesuvius eruption that destroyed Pompeii and 120 times more intense than the St. Helens Volcano eruption in the U.s. That devastating eruption ejected 100 cubic kilometers of volcanic rock into the atmosphere, generating a towering column of death whose remnants were discovered hundreds of miles away. Akrotiri was destroyed by the strong eruption, which buried it behind a thick layer of volcanic ash. Unlike Pompeii, no fossil bodies have been discovered, suggesting that its residents may have fled before the last explosion. Crete is located about 100 kilometers south of Santorini. From there, the residents of Knossos would perceive Nature's unbridled destructive anger as the end of civilization.
