Infos About Sydney Opera House

sydney opera house
In 2007 the UNESCO World Heritage Committee wrote about the Sydney Opera House  in an expert evaluation that “It stands by itself as one of the indisputable masterpieces of human creativity, not only in the 20th century but in the history of humankind.”

Today, Sydney opera house is Australia's top tourist destination, with over 8.2 million visitors each year, and one of the world's most important performing arts centers, with over 2000 acts presented 363 days a year for over 1.5 million people.

Tubowgule was the name given to the ground on which the Sydney Opera House stands by its traditional guardians, the Gadigal of the Eora Nation. The concept of a dedicated performing arts center in Sydney had been considered for decades, but it did not gather enough political impetus to become a reality until the mid-1950s. It was a watershed moment for Australia, whose economy was booming thanks to record numbers of post-World War II immigration from Europe. Following the end of the war, a freshly hopeful nation sought to define itself.

The curtain opened on the Opera Hall's first production - Prokofiev's epic War and Peace by the Australian Opera – on September 28, 1973, over a month before its official opening by Her Majesty the Queen. The Sydney Symphony Orchestra presented works by Wagner in the Concert Hall for the first time, with famed Swedish vocalist Birgit Nilsson and conductor Charles Mackerra.

The Ultimate Form Of Dance

Ballet shows are perhaps the most popular artistic dance performances across the world. Known for its rigid technique, prima ballerinas and full history, ballet originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century when it served as an amusement spectacle for noblemen and women. Later on it developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. At the time, it was concerned with the supernatural world of spirits and magic and often showed women as passive and fragile. With its popularity being high in Russia during the 20th century, Russian choreographers and composers took it to new heights.

Since then, ballet has become a widespread and highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary. It comprises the choreography and music for a ballet production and is choreographed and performed by trained ballet dancers. Traditional classical ballet shows are usually performed with classical music accompaniment and using elaborate costumes and staging, whereas modern ballets are often performed in simple costumes and without elaborate sets or scenery. Classical forms, traditional stories and contemporary choreographic innovations intertwine to produce the character of modern ballet.

Ballet has been influential globally and has defined the foundational techniques which are used in many other dance genres and cultures. Various schools around the world have incorporated their own cultures. Classical ballet and culture changes go hand in hand and as a result ballet has evolved in distinct ways. Today, traditional ballet dance is multi-faceted and still strong.

Ballet, The Elit Of Dance

Ballet, or classical dance, was born in Italy in the 15th century but evolved and became established in France and Russia. Its name comes from the Italian word ballare (ballet), which means "I dance".

In the initial stages, the ballet took place in large halls without sets and with the spectators sitting around the perimeter of the space (stage). Since then the genre has been established in dance of high technical requirements and special terminology.

The music that invests in ballet comes mainly from classical music and that is why many composers have composed music especially for this reason. Ballet is now taught in schools around the world, has high demands and requires special dedication from the dancer. The dance is composed and determined by its strict and airy steps and movements and the dancer along with the technique must develop and evolve the acting and the mimetic. Classical ballet belongs to the elite of the arts and requires many years of practice and painstaking effort to reach a professional level.

The species first appeared in the late 15th century during the Italian Renaissance but flourished in the 17th century, during the reign of Louis XIV as the main entertainment style of the Courtyard. This also explains why the majority of the terminology used consists of French words. Initially the roles were performed by male dancers, who disguised themselves as women in order to embody the female roles.

In the 18th century Jean Georges Noverre laid the basic principles of ballet d’action. Since then the performances begin to look like theatrical works with musical accompaniment and sets.

In our country, great performances of classical ballet can be enjoyed on the National Opera under the auspices of important organizations and cared for by exceptional and renowned artists and representatives of the genre.
